‘Globally competitive, job generating’ tourism target ng DOT

MANILA, Philippines – Tututukan ng Department of Tourism (DOT) ang pagbuo ng “globally competitive” tourism industry na lilikha ng mas maraming trabaho para sa mga Filipino, sinabi ni Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco nitong Lunes, Hulyo 28.

Ito ay kasunod ng direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na palakasin ang pagbibigay ng trabaho sa apat na porsyento ng mga Filipino na nananatiling unemployed.

“As the President mentioned, the task ahead is to find opportunities for the remaining four percent of our labor force—and tourism stands ready to help meet that challenge,” saad sa pahayag ni Frasco.

“We remain committed to building a tourism industry that is not only globally competitive, but also grounded on our shared mission to uplift the lives of every Filipino through dignified and sustainable livelihood,” dagdag pa niya.

Sinabi ni Frasco na ang turismo ay lumago na sa isang “major economic pillar that empowers communities and creates jobs” sa ilalim ng Marcos administration.

Sa kasalukuyan, nasa 6.75 milyong Filipino ang nagtatrabaho sa tourism industry, o 13.83 percent ng kabuuang employment ng bansa.

Dagdag pa rito, mahigit 10 milyon pa ang nakikinabang mula sa industriya sa indirect employment. RNT/JGC
