SOUTH KOREA – Ipinatigil ni South Korean President Lee Jae-myung ang implementasyon ng 700-billion won (₱28.7 billion) infrastructure loan sa Pilipinas sa pagtukoy sa posibilidad na korapsyon.
Ito ay kasunod ng malaking corruption scandal na kinakaharap ng bansa sangkot ang flood control infrastructure, dahilan para imbestigahan ito ng Kamara at Senado.
Ang anunsyo ni Lee ay inilabas nitong Martes, Setyembre 9 kasunod ng exclusive report ng Hankyoreh ng Korea.
“The project, which was deemed a substandard project with potential for corruption, was immediately ordered to cease proceedings,” saad sa post ni Lee.
Pagpapatuloy nito, mahalaga ang hakbang dahil “it prevented the unnecessary waste of a staggering 700 billion won in taxpayer money and preemptively prevented the risk of corruption and mismanagement.”
Iniulat na ang loan ay para sa pagpapatayo ng 350 modular bridges sa mga rural area sa bansa.
“The Ministry of Strategy and Finance also confirmed suspicions that corrupt individuals, a characteristic of the Philippines’ political and business collusion, were involved in the project’s poor performance,” ayon sa report ng Hankyoreh.
Noong Hunyo, inanunsyo ng Department of Agriculture ang P27.7-billion program para magtayo ng 300 modular steel panel bridges mula 2026 hanggang 2029 na ilalagay sa 52 probinsya sa 15 rehiyon, sakop ang mga lugar na may mataas na potensyal sa agrikultura ngunit limitado ang road access. RNT/JGC
