MANILA, Philippines – Siyam na Chinese nationals ang naaresto nitong Lunes, Setyembre 22, sa umano’y illegal mining sa Aroroy, Masbate, sinabi ng Bureau of Immigration (BI).
Ayon sa BI, ang siyam ay mula sa dalawang magkahiwalay na mining sites kung saan sila ay napag-alamang “actively engaged in mining activities without appropriate visas or permits.”
Lumabas sa imbestigasyon na ang mga ito ay overstaying at “working in violation of their immigration status.”
Inilipad ang mga suspek patungong Manila matapos ang joint operation kasama ang Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Army, Navy, National Police, Masbate Provincial Police, at government intelligence units.
Kasalukuyang naka-detain ang mga ito sa BI facility sa Taguig habang naghihintay ng deportation proceedings.
Ipinaliwanag ni BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado na ang mga ito ay mapananagot dahil sa illegal mining.
“Illegal mining not only undermines our immigration and labor policies but also threatens the environment and the livelihood of local communities,” ani Viado.
“We will continue to strengthen enforcement efforts, with the support of other government agencies, to ensure that violators are held accountable and our resources are safeguarded,” pagpapatuloy niya. RNT/JGC
