MANILA, Philippines – inirekomenda ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) nitong Lunes ang isang five-meter zone of avoidance sa Bogo Bay Fault na pinagmulan ng magnitude 6.9 na lindol sa Bogo City, Cebu noong September 30.
“PHIVOLCS recommends a 5-meter zone of avoidance from the trace of the fault or edge of deformation zone,” saad ng ahensya.
Noong Oktubre 3, nadiskubre ng Phivolcs ang fault line na pinagmulan ng napakalakas na lindol sa Cebu na pinangalanang Bogo Bay Fault.
“PHIVOLCS Quick Response Team found the onland extension of the newly-named Bogo Bay Fault, which caused the Magnitude 6.9 Offshore Northern Cebu Earthquake on September 30, 2025,” ayon sa ahensya.
Ang fault line ay matatagpuan sa Sitio Looc sa Barangay Nailon, ayon sa Phivolcs.
Naobserbahan ng mga eksperto ang fault scarps, bukas na mga bitak, at maliliit na pressure mound sa loob ng 2-meter-wide deformation zone sa lugar.
“Initial field mapping recorded about 200 meters of surface rupture, while drone surveys revealed the fault may extend up to 1.5 kilometers, showing signs of right-lateral movement,” saad ng PHIVOLCS.
“Field verification is ongoing to determine the full extent of the rupture,” dagdag nito.
Lunes ng alas-8:00 ng umaga, nakapagtala ang PHIVOLCS ng kabuuang 7,027 aftershocks na umaabot sa magnitude 5.1.
Ang naiulat na bilang ng mga namatay dahil sa lindol ay 72, ayon sa National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). RNT/MND
