Ombudsman sa livestreaming ng budget bicam meetings: May it be standard practice

MANILA, Philippines – Umaasa ang Office of the Ombudsman na ang livestreaming ng mga pagdinig sa 2026 budget ng Bicameral Conference Committee ay magiging “standard practice.”

Ito ay kasabay ng pagpapahayag ng suporta sa pag-livestream ng mga pagdinig ng Bicameral Conference Committee sa 2026 national budget.

“It is hoped that this initiative will not be an exception to the rule, but rather a standard practice and the norm moving forward,” saad sa pahayag ng Office of the Ombudsman.

Nagpapataas din aniya ng tiwala ng publiko ang transparency sa legislative deliberations at magsisiguro na nananatili ang accountability sa pamamahala.

Hinimok ng Ombudsman ang mga ganitong kasanayan sa pagiging bukas at transparent upang mas maunawaan ng mamamayan ang usapin patungkol dito at makilahok sa democratic process.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na ang Bicameral Conference Committee meeting para sa national budget ay ila-livestream matapos siyang makipagpulong kina Senate President Vicente Sotto III at House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III.

“To further encourage transparency, I intend to livestream the bicam. So, that’s what I told them already. There is no small committee,” ani Marcos.

“We will livestream the entire process so that if there are questionable, shall we say, insertions or additions or all that, it will also be clear who moved – who made those changes or who proposed those changes so that people will know,” dagdag pa niya.

Noong Oktubre 13 ay inaprubahan ng Kamara sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ang bersyon nito ng proposed P6.793 trillion national budget para sa 2026 sa ilalim ng House Bill 4058.

Nagkaroon ng realignments na nagpataas sa alokasyon ng badyet sa education sector sa P1.28 trillion.

“By opening its doors to public view, the Bicameral Committee affirms that democracy thrives best when its processes are seen, understood, and scrutinized by the very people it serves,” sinabi pa ng Office of the Ombudsman.

“The Ombudsman commends this initiative as a meaningful step toward a more open, participatory, and responsible government,” dagdag nito. RNT/JGC
