MANILA, Philippines – Hinimok ni Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula nitong Sabado, Nobyembre 15 ang mga mananampalataya na maging mapagmatyag sa mga natatanggap na impormasyon at sa paglahok sa mga mass gathering kasabay ng malawakang corruption scandal sa bansa.
“Our nation currently faces a deep moral and spiritual crisis, marked by issues of corruption and mistrust in institutions. In these challenging times, we, the people of God, are often inundated with a deluge of information from various sources, especially through social media. This constant barrage can lead to confusion, division, and a weakening of our moral compass if we are not vigilant,” sinabi ni Advincula sa kanyang pastoral statement.
“In moments of mass gatherings and public discourse, we do not let emotion prevail over reason. We must always adhere to the rule of law and resist any calls for extra-constitutional means to solve our problems,” dagdag pa nito.
Hinimok ni Advincula ang mga mananampalataya “to be wise, critical, and discerning” sa pagtanggap ng mga impormasyon at sianbing ang “virus” ng mga kasinungalingan at disinformation ay nakaaapekto sa kapasidad ng tao na matukoy ang katotohanan.
Ang panawagan ni Advincula ay kasabay ng nakatakdang anti-corruption rallies simula ngayong araw, Nobyembre 16 hanggang sa Nobyembre 18. Kabilang dito ang tatlong araw na protest action ng Iglesia ni Cristo, at ang mga video message ni dating Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co na nag-uugnay kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at dating Speaker Martin Romualdez na nagpasok ng P100 bilyong badyet sa 2025 national budget.
