MANILA, Philippines – Mariing kinondena ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Palapag, Northern Samar ang pangingikil at paggamit ng pampasabog ng mga miyembro ng New People’s Army (NPA) na nakumpirma sa sagupaan ng pamahalaan at mga rebelde kamakailan.
Sinabi ito ng Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) araw ng Lunes, Disyembre 1 matapos ang engkwentro ng Philippine Army 78th Infantry Battalion sa NPA remnants sa mga hideout na puno ng ipinagbabawal na anti-personnel mines.
Natagpuan ito ng militar sa bakbakan noong Nobyembre 29, 2025 sa bulubunduking bahagi ng Barangay Nipa sa Palapag.
Nasawi rito ang isang rebelde at nasamsam ang limang high-powered firearms at iba’t ibang war materials.
“The MTF-ELCAC strongly condemns all acts of violence, extortion and intimidation that threaten communities and hinder our shared goal of lasting peace. We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguard the welfare of every people in Palapag and uphold a peaceful and resilient municipality,” ayon sa Palapag LGU.
Naglunsad ang pamahalaan ng operasyon matapos makatanggap ng kabi-kabilang sumbong na nangingikil ang mga armadong rebelde sa mga magsasaka sa lugar.
Sinubukan din umanong harassin ng mga ito ang mga komunidad na nagrerekober pa lamang sa epekto ng nagdaang bagyo.
“The MTF-ELCAC appeals to the remaining members of the NPA to return to the folds of the law. Those who surrender will be given appropriate medical care and access to government reintegration and livelihood programs designed to support a successful and productive return to society,” sinabi ng lokal na pamahalaan.
