MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) nitong Huwebes, Disyembre 11 na hihilingin nito sa mga lokal na pamahalaan na kausapin ang mga may-ari ng mall na huwag magsagawa ng mga sale sa peak days ngayong holiday season.
“We are not prohibiting malls from conducting per store sales. What we are emphasizing is cooperation—especially in managing the surge of shoppers which directly impacts traffic,” pahayag ni MMDA chairperson Romando Artes.
Ito ay kasunod ng naranasang matinding trapiko sa Marcos Highway dahil sa kabi-kabilang mall sale at hindi organisadong truck ban policies.
Sinabi ni Artes na nasa 270,000 sasakyan ang bumabagtas sa Marcos Highway araw-araw.
“Traffic inevitably becomes heavier during weekends, so coordination is crucial. We need to synchronize traffic adjustments immediately with the LGUs,” ani Artes.
Nitong Huwebes ay sinimulan na rin ng MMDA ang ilang hakbang para maibsan ang matinding daloy ng trapiko sa Marcos Highway.
“We are now implementing the necessary interventions to ensure smoother traffic flow along Marcos Highway. Part of these efforts are the installation of additional traffic signages, deployment of additional personnel, and close coordination with the concerned LGUs,” ayon kay Artes.
Natukoy aniya ng composite team ang operational bottlenecks, naobserbahan ang vehicular flow patterns, at natukoy ang mga safety concern na nakakaapekto sa mga motorista at pedestrian, kasunod ng inspeksyon ng major access points sa Marcos Highway.
Kabilang sa iba pang traffic management interventions ay ang pagpapalit ng concrete barriers ng 20 plastic barriers; relocation at reconfiguration ng U-turn slots sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga lokal na pamahalaan sa lugar; at traffic signal adjustments sa signalized intersection ng Sumulong Highway-Marcos Highway.
