MANILA, Philippines – Tinanggihan ng National Maritime Council (NMC) ang paratang ng China na ang Pilipinas ay gumagawa ng “provocations” sa West Philippine Sea sa pamamagitan ng pagpapadala ng barko at pagpapahintulot sa mga Pilipinong mangingisda na mangisda sa lugar.
“China’s claim that the Philippines ‘stages provocations’ by deploying government vessels or allowing Filipino fisherfolk to operate in these waters is preposterous and completely false,” ayon sa NMC.
“Filipino fishers are civilians lawfully pursuing their livelihoods within the Philippines’ maritime zones. Protecting them is a responsibility of the State, not an act of escalation.”
Ani NMC, ang tensyon sa WPS ay dulot ng “illegal, coercive, aggressive, and deceptive (ICAD) activities” ng China.
Iginiit nila na ang operasyon ng Pilipinas ay ligal, ayon sa batas, at para sa kaligtasan, tulong humanitarian, at pagpapatupad ng batas, alinsunod sa UNCLOS at 2016 Arbitral Award.
“These actions are legitimate, lawful and consistent with international law,” dagdag pa ng NMC.
Binanggit din ng council ang panganib sa buhay at ari-arian dulot ng mga Chinese vessels at aircraft, at muling hinimok ang China na sumunod sa international law para mapanatili ang kapayapaan at katatagan sa rehiyon. RNT/MND
