MANILA, Philippines – Nangako ang Canada na ipagpapatuloy ang suporta nito sa pagpapalakas ng cybersecurity capabilities ng Pilipinas, lalo na bago ang 2028 presidential elections, ayon kay Canadian Ambassador David Hartman nitong Huwebes.
Sa sidelines ng isang forum sa Makati City na inorganisa ng Canada Embassy, sinabi ni Hartman na handa ang Canada, sa ilalim ng Indo-Pacific Strategy nito, na tulungan ang Pilipinas sa pagpapalakas ng “democratic resiliency.”
“We’re living in unprecedented times in terms of the threats to our respective democracies. So, now is the time when like-minded friends need to rise to the occasion and provide a measure of support to one another and for one another,” ani Hartman.
Kabilang sa suporta ng Canada ang pagsasanay sa cyber defenders, pagsasagawa ng technical workshops, at pagtulong sa mga hakbang laban sa foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI).
“Cybersecurity and information integrity are no longer technical issues — they are national, regional, and democratic imperatives. Canada’s commitment to this agenda is long-standing and continues to grow,” dagdag niya.
Nagbabala naman si Stratbase ADR Institute President Dindo Manhit na ang FIMI ay naging isang “well-orchestrated system” na ginagamit upang samantalahin ang political vulnerabilities at impluwensyahan ang public perception para sa “foreign strategic interests.”
“Technology should be — and will be — for the public good. We should never allow foreign agents to bring down our defenses and sway what our people feel, think and believe, which in turn influences their democratic decisions,” ani Manhit.
“There should be no compromises in the protection of our sovereignty and our democracy,” dagdag niya.
Binigyang-diin ni Manhit ang kahalagahan ng pagpapalakas ng cybersecurity at pagprotekta sa information environment ng bansa bago ang 2028 elections, kasabay ng lumalaking impluwensya ng social media sa publiko.
“And how we are shaped, shapes the future of our country. What’s the remedy? It’s for us to understand that this is a [cyber] war that is ongoing,” aniya.
Ayon kay Manhit, umabot na sa 76 porsiyento ng mga Pilipino ang naimpluwensyahan ng social media noong Mayo 2026, mula sa 3 porsiyento lamang noong 2016. Dave Medina
