MANILA, Philippines – Itinakda bukas, Pebrero 23, ang caucus ng lahat ng mga senador upang lumikha ng “parameters on how to communicate without hurting each other” matapos ang gusot sa pagitan ng mga mambabatas sa isyu ng West Philippine Sea.
“It’s a breath of fresh air that the Chinese ambassador told us, ‘Let’s talk.’ So, that’s a good opening,” sinabi ni Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson nitong Sabado, Pebrero 21.
“That’s why, on Monday, we’re having an all senators’ caucus. It’s not necessarily to argue about the Kalayaan Island Group or the West Philippine Sea but at least for us to establish parameters on how to communicate with each other so we wouldn’t hurt each other.”
Matatandaan na tumindi ang tensyon sa pagitan ng mga mambabatas matapos sabihin ni Senador Rodante Marcoleta na dapat isuko na lamang ang Kalayaan Group of Islands.
Nang tanungin naman kung isasali si Marcoleta sa naturang meeting, sinabi ni Lacson na, “[It’s an] all senators’ caucus. So, he is also invited to join if he wants to join.”
Nilinaw din niya na ang caucus ay isang joint initiative kasama si Senate foreign affairs committee chairperson Sen. Erwin Tulfo.
Nauna nang kinumpirma ni Tulfo na magkakaroon ng dialogue ang kapulungan kay Chinese ambassador Jing Quan matapos ang palitan ng mga argumento sa pagitan ng Senado at Chinese Embassy sa Manila kaugnay sa pagdepensa ng bansa sa national sovereignty at maritime rights. RNT/JGC
