MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan si Senador Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito sa mga mambabatas na pabilisin ang pagpasa ng panukalang batas na magtatakda ng awtomatikong pagsuspinde ng excise tax sa mga produktong petrolyo sa gitna ng pagtaas ng presyo ng langis dulot ng sigalot sa Middle East na kinasasangkutan ng Estados Unidos, Israel, at Iran.
Dumating ang panawagan habang naghahanda ang mga lokal na kumpanya ng langis sa panibagong oil price hike, kung saan ika-10 sunod na linggo na ng pagtaas ng diesel, at nagbabala ang mga lider ng industriya ng posibleng “significant” na dagdag-presyo kung magpapatuloy ang tensyon.
“It is clear that the first to be hit by the increase in crude oil prices are ordinary Filipinos – our drivers, the farmers, the small businesses, and every family that relies on daily income,” ani Ejercito.
“When oil prices increase, it has a domino effect, increasing fares, food prices, and other basic necessities,” dagdag niya.
Inihain ni Ejercito ang Senate Bill No. 5 na naglalayong awtomatikong suspendihin ang excise tax sa regular gasoline, unleaded premium gasoline, at diesel kapag ang average Dubai crude oil price batay sa Mean of Platts Singapore ay umabot o lumampas sa USD 80 kada bariles.
“By establishing a clear and automatic trigger, this measure provides timely and predictable relief in times of extraordinary fuel price surges. It is a crucial step toward easing the burden on our constituents, especially low-income households and small businesses, who are most affected by fuel cost volatility,” ayon sa explanatory note ng panukala.
Sa ilalim ng Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law, may P10 kada litro na excise tax ang gasolina, P6 sa diesel, at P3 sa kerosene. Bagama’t maaaring magrekomenda ang Department of Finance ng suspensyon sa nakatakdang pagtaas ng buwis, hindi nito maaaring ipatigil ang mismong pagpapataw ng buwis nang walang batas.
Binigyang-diin ni Ejercito na bagama’t may fuel subsidies ang pamahalaan para sa mga PUV driver, magsasaka, at mangingisda, maaaring hindi ito sapat.
“Our people need a practical and immediate solution when faced with unforeseen events such as the recent developments in the Middle East that impact their daily lives and livelihood,” aniya.
Ikinadismaya rin niya ang pagkamatay ng isang Filipinang caregiver sa Israel at nagpahayag ng pakikiramay.
“We extend our prayers to her family and to all our kababayans in affected areas.”
Nanawagan din siya sa Department of Migrant Workers at mga embahada ng Pilipinas na paigtingin ang pagtulong sa mga OFW.
“The action cannot be half-hearted. It must be complete, fast, and compassionate. Deliver immediate aid, ensure their safety, and provide sustained support to those in affected areas,” ani Ejercito. RNT
