MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan ng Department of Tourism (DOT) ang 15 senior citizen bilang mga tour guide sa Intramuros sa ilalim ng Tourism Legacy and Livelihood Program.
Ayon sa DOT, ipinatutupad ang programa katuwang ang National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) bilang bahagi ng pagsusulong ng inclusive at elderly-friendly tourism.
Pinapayagan ng programa ang mga nakatatandang Pilipino na makibahagi sa community-based tourism matapos makumpleto ang panayam at isang linggong pagsasanay na may kasamang lectures at mock tours.
Sumailalim ang 15 senior citizen sa pitong araw na community tour guiding seminar noong Setyembre 2025 sa pakikipagtulungan ng Intramuros Administration (IA). Apat sa kanila ay dating overseas Filipino workers at isa ay retiradong broadcaster.
Nakipagpulong si Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco sa mga bagong tour guide upang pakinggan ang kanilang karanasan at kumuha ng mga mungkahi para mapahusay ang programa.
“I’m so impressed by the variety of professions and backgrounds of those that have successfully passed our senior citizens community tour guide training,” ani Frasco.
“But even more impressed by the overarching purpose that drives you to be here, not just for leisure, not to address boredom perhaps, but more importantly, to serve our country,” dagdag niya.
Nagbigay rin si Frasco ng essential kits na naglalaman ng portable lapel microphone, sunblock, sombrero, journal, tumbler, sunglasses, at accident insurance coverage.
Nag-aalok ang IA ng libreng walking tours sa Fort Santiago at Casa Manila tuwing Sabado at Linggo sa pangunguna ng mga DOT-accredited guides.
Mula 2022 hanggang Enero 2026, umabot sa 412,640 indibidwal ang nakatapos ng Filipino Brand of Service Excellence training ng DOT, kabilang ang 12,786 tour guides. Noong Pebrero 2026, may 4,994 DOT-accredited tour guides sa bansa, hindi pa kabilang ang mga specialist tour guides.
Ayon kay Frasco, sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalakas ng professional development ng mga tour guide, natitiyak na “every visitor encounter reflects the quality, warmth, and excellence of Filipino hospitality, which ultimately drives tourism growth and creates more sustainable livelihoods for our communities.” RNT
