MANILA, Philippines — Nagkakaloob ng legal na tulong ang pamahalaan ng Pilipinas sa tatlong overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) na naaresto sa United Arab Emirates (UAE) dahil umano sa pag-post ng mga video ng missile attacks na lumabag sa lokal na batas sa seguridad.
Ayon kay Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, nakatalaga na ang isang abogado para sa kaso, habang patuloy ang koordinasyon ng Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) sa Philippine Embassy sa UAE sa pangunguna ni Ambassador Alfonso Ferdinand Ver.
“We were working closely with Ambassador Ver and the Philippine Embassy in the UAE to provide legal and other forms of assistance,” ani Cacdac.
“I can’t give details on the legal courses of action, but rest assured, we have a lawyer assigned… and that lawyer has been tasked to see them wherever they are currently detained.”
Kinumpirma ni Cacdac na pawang OFWs ang tatlong naaresto at sinabi ring nakikipag-ugnayan ang pamahalaan sa kanilang mga pamilya.
Nag-ugat ang pag-aresto sa umano’y paglabag sa batas ng UAE na nagbabawal sa pagdo-document at pag-post ng mga video kaugnay ng mga pag-atake, habang pinaiigting ang pagpapatupad ng cybercrime at information laws sa gitna ng tensyon sa rehiyon.
“First and foremost, patuloy ang ating pagku-caution, bigay caution sa ating mga kababayan na please abide by host country protocols and security regulations,” aniya.
“So in this case, pinagbabawal ang posting ng documentations or videos of attacks. So please refrain or do not video nor post such images of attacks in your respective host country, in this case, particularly the UAE,” dagdag niya.
Ayon sa Philippine Embassy sa Abu Dhabi, agad nitong beripikado ang detalye ng insidente at nagsumite ng kahilingan para sa consular visit sa mga awtoridad ng UAE.
Tiniyak ni Cacdac ang patuloy na suporta ng pamahalaan sa mga naarestong OFWs, alinsunod sa direktiba na tulungan ang mga Pilipino sa ibayong-dagat.
“So we continue to provide legal and other forms of assistance. But rest assured, we are, together with Ambassador Ver, Sec. (Tess) Lazaro, we are helping because this is one of the duties or tasks that we are ordained to do based on the directive of the President,” aniya. Dave Baluyot
