MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan si Batangas Representative Leandro Leviste kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na bawasan ang budget sa paghohost ng bansa sa Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) Summit at iba pang related meetings ngayong taon mula sa P22 bilyon patungong P10 bilyon.
Ani Leviste, ang matitipid na P12 bilyon ay maaari pang magamit sa mga programa na magpapagaan sa sitwasyon ng mamamayan sa tumataas na presyo ng produktong petrolyo.
Nanawagan ang mambabatas sa ilalim ng kanyang House Resolution 911, sa pagsasabing ang matitipid mula sa ASEAN budget “could be used to strengthen and expand the government’s response to rising fuel prices while also setting an example of fiscal discipline for other government agencies.”
Aniya, nagawang makagastos lamang ang bansa ng nasa P8.5 bilyon sa P16.74 bilyong budget nito para sa ASEAN Summit hosting noong 2017.
“The resolution recognizes the importance of hosting Asean in terms of diplomacy, tourism, trade, investment, and energy security, and therefore does not call for canceling the summit, but for hosting it in a more cost-efficient manner,” saad sa pahayag ni Leviste.
“Hosting the Asean summit is a significant opportunity for the Philippines, including in terms of diplomacy, tourism, trade, investment, and energy security, and would thus be beneficial for the Philippines in light of recent events,” dagdag pa niya.
Kamakailan ay idineklara ni Marcos ang state of national energy emergency at pinirmahan ang batas na nagbibigay kapangyarihan sa kanya na suspendihin at bawasan ang excise tax sa langis sa loob ng tatlong buwan.
Nagsimula na ring mamigay ng ayuda ang pamahalaan sa public transport sector. RNT/JGC
