MANILA, Philippines – Inaasahang dadagsa ang milyun-milyong pasahero na uuwi sa kani-kanilang mga probinsya ngayong Semana Santa. Dahil dito, ilang mga ahensya ng gobyerno ang naghanda at naka-alerto upang siguraduhin ang kapakanan at seguridad ng mga Pilipino.
Ayon sa Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), tinatayang 2.4 milyong pasahero ang dadagsa sa mga pantalan, habang higit 1.3 milyong pasahero naman ang inaasahan sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport ayon sa New NAIA Infra Corp..
Samantala, sinabi ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na nagbigay ito ng special permits sa halos 1,300 bus upang matugunan ang pagdami ng pasahero, lalo na dahil sa pagtaas ng presyo ng langis.
Dahil dito nag-deploy ang Philippine National Police (PNP) ng halos 60,000 pulis upang tiyakin ang seguridad sa lahat ng aktibidad ngayong Holy Week, habang inaasahang milyon-milyong Pilipino ang bibiyahe pauwi sa kanilang mga probinsya.
Ayon kay Police Capt. Amie Tiu, hepe ng Tourist and Protection Section ng PNP’s Directorate for Operations, naka-heightened alert status ang mga pulis mula March 29 hanggang April 6.
“The Philippine National Police is fully prepared to ensure the safety, security and orderliness of the public under our nationwide program Ligtas Semana Santa 2026,” aniya.
Kabuuang 59,416 personnel ang ide-deploy, katuwang ang ibang ahensya tulad ng Philippine Coast Guard, Armed Forces of the Philippines, at mga lokal na pamahalaan.
“Our personnel are tasked to ensure not only to ensure the peace and order but also to assist our tourist individuals, to manage the crowd and prevent criminal activities, enforce safety regulations and provide immediate response when it is needed,” dagdag ni Tiu.
Sa Metro Manila, nasa full alert na ang National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), kung saan mahigit 10,000 pulis ang magbabantay. Magtatayo rin ng assistance desks sa transport hubs, simbahan, at iba pang matataong lugar.
Sa Central Luzon, magde-deploy din ng 13,000 pulis ayon kay Jess B. Mendez upang matiyak ang seguridad ng mga biyahero at deboto.
Para sa road safety, pinagtulungan ng PNP at LTFRB ang pagpapatupad ng mas mahigpit na inspeksyon sa mga sasakyan at terminal.
“Road safety is among our top priority as more people are expected to be on the road on their way home to their home provinces and tourist spots. Your PNP will be coordinating with other stakeholders and other agencies to ensure the protection of all road users,” ayon kay PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr.
“Our goal is to ensure the safety of commuters and other road users by ensuring the road worthiness of buses and other PUVs, as well as the physical and mental readiness of the drivers,” dagdag ni LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II.
Gayundin, inihayag ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) na handa na ang Maharlika Highway para sa Holy Week travel matapos ang mga isinagawang road repairs, lalo na sa Quezon at Camarines Sur.
Samantala, nag-activate ng public assistance operations ang National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) upang tiyakin ang “reliable and uninterrupted communications” sa panahon ng Semana Santa.
Inatasan ang mga regional office na makipag-ugnayan sa mga lokal na pamahalaan, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, civic groups, at amateur radio groups upang palakasin ang komunikasyon at emergency response sa mga lugar.
“To further enhance readiness, the NTC will facilitate the swift issuance of temporary permits and licenses to ensure the seamless operation of communication support teams, especially as millions of Filipinos are expected to travel nationwide,” ayon sa ahensya. RNT/MND
