MANILA, Philippines – Naghain ng petisyon sa Quezon City Regional Trial Court ang asawa ni Vice President Sara Duterte na si Manases Carpio na humihiling na magpalabas ng Temporary Restraining Order(TRO) para harangin ang subpoena sa mga tax records sa Bureau of Internal Revenue(BIR), ayon kay House Justice Committee member at Bicol Saro Partylist Rep Terry Ridon.
Ayon kay Ridon, ang kopya ng petisyon ni Carpio ay natanggap ng komite.
Matatandaan na sinubpoena ng komite si BiR Commisisoner Charlito Mendoza para dumalo sa impeachment hearing sa Abril 14 at isumite ang tax records ng mag-asawa mula 2007 hanggang 2025.
Sakop ng subpoena ang mga business interest ng mag asawa kabilang ang Metro City Chow Foods Corp., Gencorp Industries Inc., Carpio Lawyers, 888 Bistro, CALE88 Foods Corp., Madayaw Fisheries Corp., Mati City Ice Plant and Cold Storage Inc., Amianan Shores Inc., Geometry Security and Investigation Agency Inc., Cabletow 88 Shipping at Marine Services Inc.
Nang hingan ng reaksyon ukol sa hinihinging TRO, sinabi ni Ridon na hindi maaaring pigilan ni Carpio ang pagpapalabas ng mga nasabing dokumento sa basehang bahagi ito ng pagdetermina sa probable cause sa kinahaharap na impeachment complaint ng Pangalawang Pangulo.
“These tax records are relevant in determining whether the Vice President may have amassed unexplained wealth and whether such wealth was accurately reflected in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth during her public service”paliwanag ni Ridon.
Aniya, may kapangyarihan ang House Committee on Justice na ipasumnite ang nasabing mhga dokumento.
“Claims of privacy and confidentiality cannot override the constitutional powers of Congress when exercising its impeachment functions and fact-finding authority pursuant to the Constitution and the House Rules on Impeachment,” paliwanag ni Ridon. Gail Mendoza
