MANILA, Philippines – Kinumpirma ni Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III nitong Linggo, Mayo 10, na may umiiral na plano para siya ay patalsikin sa kanyang puwesto, kasabay ng mga ulat ng posibleng pagbabago sa liderato ng Senado bago ang impeachment proceedings laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
“I heard. As always, I serve at the pleasure of my peers. I uphold and follow the Constitution! I leave everything to God’s plan. I trust HIS Heart!” pahayag ni Sotto sa mga mamamahayag.
Lumutang ang usapin ng umano’y Senate coup matapos ang muling pagbubukas ng sesyon noong Mayo 4, kasunod ng pag-apruba ng House Committee on Justice sa Articles of Impeachment laban kay Duterte. Ayon sa mga ulat, pinangungunahan umano ng grupo ni Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano ang plano, habang sina Senador Mark at Camille Villar ay sinasabing kinukumbinsing lumipat ng kampo.
Kailangan ng hindi bababa sa 13 senador upang mapalitan ang Senate President at makabuo ng bagong majority bloc.
Nauna nang iginiit ni Sotto na magtitipon ang Senado bilang impeachment court sa oras na matanggap ang Articles of Impeachment, sa kabila ng ilang senador na tutol sa proseso.
“Based on the Constitution, it’s automatic. That’s our job. No matter what others say, what matters is what the Constitution says: when Articles of Impeachment are received, we convene as an impeachment court,” aniya sa naunang panayam.
Nagbabala naman si Sen. Erwin Tulfo na ang anumang hakbang na sisira sa constitutional process ay posibleng makasama, at binigyang-diin ang kagustuhan ng publiko na matuloy ang impeachment trial.
“How will they explain to the public? … That because of the impeachment, kelangan palitan ang leadership?” ani Tulfo.
Iginiit din ni Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian na ang impeachment trial ay tungkulin ng Senado at hindi usapin ng political choice o pagpapalit ng liderato.
“It’s a responsibility of the Senate… The Constitution is very clear that we need to try forthwith,” ani Gatchalian.
Dagdag pa niya, nananatiling matatag ang posisyon ni Sotto sa kabila ng mga ulat ng coup attempt.
“Personally, I think SP is on stable ground because he is showing the right leadership here especially in times like these,” aniya. RNT
