MANILA, Philippines – Inihayag ng Department of Information and Communications Technology na nasa huling yugto na ng aplikasyon ang dalawang US-based satellite internet service providers para makapag-operate sa Pilipinas.
Sa press briefing sa Quezon City, sinabi ni Henry Aguda na ang dalawang telecom firms ay “under application with the NTC.”
“Actually, one of them should finish [licensing] this month because its service is ready for launching,” ani Aguda.
“The other one should be able to launch by the end of the year,” dagdag niya.
Hindi pinangalanan ni Aguda ang dalawang kumpanya ngunit sinabi niyang pareho itong satellite service providers.
“They are big companies… and they are well-known,” ayon sa DICT chief.
Noong Setyembre ng nakaraang taon, sinabi ng DICT na may mga foreign telcos na interesadong pumasok sa data transmission industry ng bansa matapos maging ganap na batas ang Konektadong Pinoy Act.
Sa ilalim ng batas, maaari nang makapag-operate ang mga bagong data transmission players kahit walang legislative franchise o Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity. RNT/MND
