MANILA, Philippines – KINONDENA ng Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) ang pagpatay sa radio broadcaster na si Nestor “Teting” Micator sa Special Geographic Area ng Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Sa isang kalatas, nanawagan si PTFoMS executive director Undersecretary Jose Torres Jr. para sa isang mabilis at impartial investigation sa nakamamatay na pamamaril, inilarawan ang insidente bilang matinding pag-atake sa press freedom at public discourse.
“PTFoMS strongly condemns this act of violence and extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and listeners of Mr. Micator,” ayon kay Torres.
“The killing of any media practitioner is a matter of serious concern. Acts of violence against journalists undermine not only press freedom, but also the public’s right to information and the democratic space where issues affecting communities are discussed openly,” dagdag na wika nito.
Sa kabilang dako, si Micator, isang news anchor at commentator ng D’Empire Radio sa Pikit, Cotabato, ay sasakay na sana sa kanyang motorsiklo sa labas ng barangay hall ng Barangay Fort Pikit sa bayan ng Malidegao, Huwebes ng gabi nang barilin siya ng dalawang hindi kilalang mga salarin.
Ang suspek ay napaulat na tumalilis kasama ang kanyang kasabwat matapos ang pag-atake.
Iniimbestigahan na ng mga awtoridad ang motibo sa pagpatay kay MIcator kabilang na kung may kinalaman ito sa kanyang trabaho bilang broadcaster o kanyang papel bilang miyembro ng Lupong Pambarangay.
Kumpiyansa naman si Torres na kagyat na maaaresto ang mga salarin upang masiguro na mapananagot ang mga ito at mabibigyan ng hustisya ang biktima.
“We urge investigators to pursue all possible angles and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice swiftly,” ang sinabi ni Torres.
Ani Torres, mahigpit na nakikipag-ugnayan ang PTFoMS sa Philippine National Police at iba pang kaugnay na ahensiya na may kinalaman sa progreso ng imbestigasyon.
Nanawagan naman si Torres sa mga lokal na awtoridad at residente na makipagtulungan sa pagsisikap na kilalanin at matukoy ang mga suspek at maitatag ang pananagutan.
