MANILA, Philippines – MARIING itinanggi ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na target ng administrasyon ang mga Senate majority members kasunod ng serye ng mga kaso na inihahain laban sa mga ito.
“I don’t know how it ended up being said that the majority now is being targeted. Because if you look at it, they weren’t the majority then. So, that doesn’t apply,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos sa isang panayam ng mga mamamahayag bago pa magtapos ang kanyang four-day state visit sa Japan.
“Whatever the alignment in the Senate was, it has nothing to do with it. These are still the people whose names appeared in… If you look, what is… Where all this is based is in the testimony to the blue ribbon committee. That’s where it all appeared,” aniya pa rin.
Nauna rito, inilarawan ni Senador Imee Marcos na isang “political persecution” ang inihaing plunder at graft case laban kay Senador Jinggoy Estrada sa Sandiganbayan at bahagi din aniya ito ng hakbang para pahinain ang Senate majority bloc.
Sa isang statement, kinuwestiyon ni Marcos ang timing ng paghahain ng kaso laban sa mga majority senator kasabay batikos sa mga miyembro ng minority bloc na gustong harangin ang online participation sa Senate proceedings.
“Political persecution. The timing of these cases and the attempt by the minority, who are, by the way, openly aligned with the administration, to block online participation by Senators make it very clear that the cases against Jinggoy and other majority senators are not about justice or accountability,” ani Marcos.
“It is about the desperation of the administration to hold on to power,” dagdag pa niya.
Sabi ni Marcos, ipinagpapalagay na inosente si Estrada at iba pang senador na nahaharap sa kaso at hindi sila dapat pigilan na gampanan ang kanilang tungkiling bilang halal na opisyal ng bansa.
“May presumption of innocence eh; kulong at this point is not punishment since presumed innocent sila,” ayon sa senadora.
“Disenfranchisement ng voters. Ilang milyong tao ang nag halal sa kanila. Mababalewala ‘yun if they are not allowed to participate sa Senado,” saad pa niya.
Maliban kay Senador Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, sinabi pa ni Marcos na ang mga senador na nahaharap sa kaso ay hindi ‘fugitives’ at sumusunod naman sa court process.
Hinamon pa niya ang mga senador ng minorya na payagan ang online participation ng mga senador mula sa mayorya kung iginigiit nilang hindi ito politically motivated. KRIS JOSE
