MANILA, Philippines – Iginiit ng Philippine National Police (PNP) nitong Biyernes, Hunyo 5, na hindi pa ito nakatatanggap ng kahit anong “validated intelligence” kaugnay sa mga banta sa pagdiriwang ng Araw ng Kalayaan sa Hunyo 12.
Sa press briefing, sinabi ni PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co na nakipagkita si Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla sa mga opisyal ng PNP maging sa “select regional directors and directorial staff.”
Nang tanungin kung ang meeting ay patungkol sa umano’y banta sa Hunyo 12, sinabi ni Co na “We have received no validated intelligence regarding any such threats on Independence Day.”
“But, we reassure the public that the PNP remains ready and vigilant and fully deployed to ensure the safety and security of all Independence Day celebrations across the country,” giit niya.
Kamakailan ay sinabi ng beteranong journalist at columnist na si Ramon Tulfo na nakipagkita si Remulla sa liderato ng PNP kaugnay sa umano’y plano ng mga tagasuporta ni Vice President Sara Duterte at religious sect na sugurin ang Malakanyang sa susunod na Biyernes.
Sa kabila nito, sinabi ni Co na “There’s nothing unusual or there’s nothing urgent about the meeting.”
“It’s a normal and routine exercise of the secretary’s authority of the Philippine National Police to set direction, align priorities as well as ensure all the programs and operations of the PNP are consistent with the administration’s peace and order agenda,” dagdag pa niya.
Iginiit ng opisyal na ang pinag-usapan ay ang “regular deployment for Independence Day” lamang maging ang mga security measure sa Senado dahil sa tensyon, at ang paparating na State of the Nation Address ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa Hulyo.
Idinagdag pa ng PNP public information chief na ang PNP “will verify and act accordingly” kung magkaroon ng leak sa naturang meeting.
Nang tanungin pa kung ang mga miyembro ng PNP ay nire-recruit ng mga political group, sagot ni Co:
“The PNP is solely behind the administration.”
Idinagdag pa niya na ang PNP ay nakikipag-ugnayan sa Armed Forces of the Philippines. RNT/JGC
