MANILA, Philippines – Itinanggi ni Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. nitong Biyernes na may tensyon sa unang araw ng pre-trial conference sa impeachment case laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Ayon kay Bantug, na siya ring clerk ng Senate impeachment court, naging maayos at produktibo ang pre-trial brief at walang hindi pangkaraniwang pangyayari sa proseso.
“There were some exciting moments between the counsel but it’s nothing unusual sa mga ganiyang paghaharap,” ani Bantug.
Dagdag niya, “Hindi ko masasabi na contentions, but there were some exchanges, which usually occur whenever you have two parties in a conference.”
Noong Huwebes, sinimulan ang pre-trial conference sa Senado kung saan dumalo ang mga abogado ng kampo ng Bise Presidente at ang House prosecutors.
Ayon sa abogado ni Duterte na si Michael Poa, natapos na nilang markahan ang documentary evidence para sa Articles III at IV at ipagpapatuloy ito sa Articles I at II sa Lunes, June 22.
Giit ni Bantug, normal ang ganitong sitwasyon lalo na dahil sa dami ng ebidensya na kailangang i-markahan. “Maybe because of the volume of the evidence that needs to be marked, not because of any argument or issues between the parties,” aniya.
Sinabi rin niya na maglalabas ang impeachment court secretariat ng pre-trial order na magsisilbing buod ng naging talakayan at ibibigay ito sa magkabilang panig.
Ang pre-trial conference ay paghahandang pulong bago pormal na magtipon ang senator-judges bilang impeachment court sa Hulyo 6.
Si VP Sara Duterte ay na-impeach noong Mayo dahil sa kasong culpable violation of the 1987 Constitution, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, bribery, at iba pang high crimes. RNT/MND
