MANILA, Philippines — Nagpahayag ng pagkabahala ang Department of National Defense nitong Martes kaugnay ng isinagawang ballistic missile test ng China sa South Pacific, na tinawag nitong “a reckless display of military power” at patunay na “shows little regard for smaller countries and the fragile ecological systems that sustain their people.”
Sinabi ng China nitong Lunes na nagsagawa ng test fire ang submarino nito ng isang “strategic” missile na may dummy warhead patungo sa Pacific Ocean, na agad umani ng batikos mula sa mga bansa sa rehiyon.
“This launch serves no peaceful purpose and is a calculated act of taunting and provocation against those who reject China’s illegal expansionism and coercive conduct,” ayon kay DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong sa isang pahayag.
Ayon kay Andolong, nakikiisa ang Pilipinas sa mga Pacific partner nito sa panawagan sa China “to act responsibly and stop turning shared seas into arenas of intimidation and imperial ambition.”
Nagpahayag din ng pagkabahala ang Estados Unidos sa “rapid and opaque” nuclear weapons buildup ng China.
“At a time when the United States is working harder than ever to prevent nuclear proliferation, China is doing the opposite,” ayon kay US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott sa isang pahayag.
Isinagawa ang missile test dalawang taon matapos magpakawala ang elite Rocket Force ng China ng intercontinental ballistic missile sa karagatan malapit sa French Polynesia, na siyang kauna-unahang paglulunsad nito ng naturang missile sa international waters sa loob ng mahigit 40 taon. RNT
