MANILA, Philippines — Naghain ng ethics complaint laban kay Senator Pia Cayetano ang ilang women’s rights advocates, akademiko, at feminist groups dahil sa umano’y pag-post niya ng spliced video ni Akbayan party-list Representative Chel Diokno kaugnay ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Hiniling ng mga complainant sa Senate Ethics Committee na imbestigahan si Cayetano at patawan ng kaukulang disciplinary sanctions dahil umano sa mapanlinlang na video na inilabas habang nagsisilbi siyang senator-judge sa impeachment trial. Isa si Diokno sa mga prosecutor ng Kamara sa kaso.
“Naniniwala kami na dapat imbestigahan ang ginawang pag-post ni Senator Pia ng spliced video during an impeachment trial process,” sinabi ni Juanna Caumeran ng EveryWoman.
“Naniniwala kami na ito ay hindi magandang conduct, hindi tamang conduct ng isang senador, lalong-lalo na ng isang senator-judge sa isang ongoing impeachment trial,” dagdag niya.
“Nananawagan kami sa Ethics Committee na simulan na ang imbestigasyon at kung kinakailangang patawan ng karampartang parusa ang senadora sa kaniyang ginawang pag-post ng official FB page nya ng spliced video,” sinabi pa ni Caumeran.
Ayon sa mga complainant, nilabag umano ni Cayetano ang Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability at ang constitutional oath ng mga senator-judge na magbigay ng “impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws of the Philippines.”
Iginiit din nila na pinahina ng ginawa ni Cayetano ang tiwala ng publiko sa pagiging neutral ng impeachment court at maaaring makasira sa kredibilidad ng Senado at ng impeachment process.
Kabilang sa mga naghain ng reklamo sina dating Commission on Higher Education Chair Patricia “Tatti” Licuanan; University of the Philippines-Diliman professor at EveryWoman Co-Convenor Jean Franco; Maria Cristy Balleras; Jocelyn Gerldino; Janette Balanguit at Estrella Soriana ng Parents Initiative and Social Awareness Mainstreaming Advocacy; Hammimah Sarip Kalaw ng Sanctuary Network; Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila-College of Public Administration Student Council President Joahna Marie Dela Cruz; Edrianna Villaruz ng Student Council Alliance of the Philippines; Caumeran; Oliva Solis ng District Wide Advocates Quezon City; at Lourdes Magtibay ng Pandayan Para sa Sosyalistang Pilipinas.
Sinabi ni Senate Ethics Committee Chairperson Tito Sotto na tatalakayin ng komite ang reklamo sa Agosto 6. Nilinaw niyang hiwalay ito sa impeachment trial.
“Anything that has to do with the senate, we would as much as possible we’ll not allow it to be, ikanga eh, transgressing into the work of the impeachment court,” sinabi ni Sotto.

Makikita sa video na ibinahagi ni Cayetano ang pinagtagpi-tagping bahagi ng talakayan nina Diokno at Senator-Judge Alan Peter Cayetano, kaya lumitaw na umaasa lamang ang House prosecution na makahanap ng ebidensya laban kay Duterte sa pamamagitan ng isang fishing expedition.
Sa buong talakayan, gayunman, ipinaliliwanag ni Diokno ang kahulugan ng fishing expedition at kung bakit hindi umano ito maituturing na ganoon sa kaso ng House prosecution.
“What you are referring to as a fishing expedition, we can only say that that is happening only if the party requesting the evidence or documents is just taking a chance that maybe there is something there. In our case, I have to disagree that there was any sort of fishing expedition because based on what the Committee on Justice and later the plenary of the House found was sufficient, there was enough cause to proceed with the case,” sinabi ni Diokno.
