MANILA, Philippines – Hinimok ni Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla ang Supreme Court (SC) na aksyunan ang nakabinbing administrative complaint laban sa pitong justices ng Court of Appeals (CA), matapos payuhan ang Ombudsman na magsampa ng kaso laban sa mga nagkakasalang miyembro ng hudikatura.
Ayon kay Remulla, nagsampa noong Marso 2025 ang kanyang predecessor na si Samuel Martires ng reklamo laban sa mga CA justices dahil sa gross ignorance of law at conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
Kaugnay ito ng pagbaligtad ng CA sa preventive suspension orders ng Office of the Ombudsman laban sa ilang opisyal ng Antique, kabilang si Tobias Fornier Mayor Ernesto Tanjanlangit III.
Ang mga CA associate justices na kasama sa reklamo ay sina Louis Acosta, Rex Bernando Pascual, Mary Charlene Hernandez-Azura, Roberto Quiroz, Ferdinand Baylon, Marlene Gonzales-Sison at Rafael Santos. Nagretiro na sina Sison at Santos.
Sa kanyang radio program na “Executive Session,” sinabi ni Remulla, “To date, there appears no public record of the Judicial Integrity [Office] or the Supreme Court having acted or resolved that complaint.”
Ang reklamo ay nakabinbin sa Judicial Integrity Office, ang investigating body ng SC para sa mga disciplinary case sa hudikatura. Nag-ugat ito sa pagbasura ng CA noong 2024 sa preventive suspension order ng Ombudsman laban kay Tanjanlangit kaugnay ng alitan nila ng noo’y Vice Mayor Jose Maria Fornier tungkol sa pamamahagi ng food packs.
Sinabi ni Remulla na ilan lamang ito sa mga kasong “overruled” ng CA. Binigyang-diin niyang kailangang masuri ang justice system at walang hukuman o hukom ang dapat ituring na hindi maaaring papanagutin.
“It’s about time that we examine the justice system … We cannot make the Supreme Court, (lower) courts, the judges and the justices of the appellate court sacred cows. There should be no sacred cows anymore,” pahayag ni Remulla. RNT/MDS
