MANILA, Philippines – Sinupalpal ni Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro ang patuloy na pag-angkin ng China sa South China Sea matapos itong abutan ng ‘unsigned note’ habang nagsasalita sa defense and security forum sa Seoul, South Korea.
Sa ulat, sinabi umano sa naturang note na hindi kinikilala ng China ang arbitral award na nagpasawlang-saysay sa historical claims ng naturang bansa sa South China Sea.
“Of course. Because you lost,” ani Teodoro sa isang panel discussion sa Seoul Defense Dialog bilang tugon sa pro-China points na nakasaad sa naturang notes.
Hindi pa malinaw kung kanino o saan ito nanggaling.
Ani Teodoro, dapat ay sumali ang China sa forum na pinangunahan ng South Korea.
“I think this is from China… You should have joined the… and may I read it? ‘China’s position on the South China Sea arbitration is clear, consistent, and firm.’ They have no position!” sinabi ni Teodoro.
“’The so-called award is illegal, null and void.’ So say you. ‘And has no binding force.’ Because you don’t want to be subjected to UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea),” dagdag pa niya.
Dito na tinawag ni Teodoro ang ginawa ng China bilang “rude” at tinanong kung paano haharapin ang ganitong klase ng pag-uugali.
Idinagdag pa niya na ang gawaing ito ay nakakabastos sa host.
“How do you expect to deal with it civilly? I ask you the question: Is this the right paper to pose to me when I am being asked a question on the floor? And how will you treat this kind of behavior?” ani Teodoro.
