MANILA, Philippines – Pinangunahan ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang mga pakikipagtulungan sa mga ahensya ng gobyerno, local government units (LGUs) at pribadong sektor para tugunan ang kakulangan sa classrooms at mga pagkaantala sa klase dahil sa kalamidad.
Lumagda ang DepEd, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) at 49 LGUs sa kasunduan para sa pagtatayo ng mga bagong public school facilities sa iba’t ibang lugar sa bansa.
Sa ilalim ng kasunduan, makatatanggap ang bawat LGU ng P55 milyon mula sa Pagcor para sa pagtatayo ng tatlong palapag na school building na may 12 classrooms. Ipapalabas ang pondo sa tatlong tranche, depende sa technical compliance at progreso ng proyekto.
Inaasahang matatapos ang mga gusali pagsapit ng 2027, bago tuluyang akuin ng DepEd ang kanilang pamamahala at maintenance.
“One of the biggest challenges that we face in the Department is the shortage of classrooms,” ani Education Secretary Sonny Angara.
“We continue to experience this — not only because our school buildings are getting older, but also because every year we are challenged by various calamities. So it’s a big thing for us to have partners who continue to support this goal,” dagdag niya.
Samantala, inilunsad din ng DepEd ang Adopt-a-School ICT program sa Pakil, Laguna, na naglalayong mapanatili ang learning continuity tuwing may matinding panahon o kalamidad.
Sa programa, bibigyan ng high-speed satellite internet ang 12 paaralan sa Pakil. Nag-donate ang Prime Infra Foundation at Ahunan Power Inc. ng Starlink kits at sasagutin ang buwanang subscription sa loob ng tatlong taon.
“This is life-changing for our students and teachers, especially during a calamity. As Edcom II pointed out, our students have missed a record number of days [of school] — as much as 40 to 50 days in some of our school divisions,” ani Angara.
“ICT is a bridge to opportunity, empowering teachers and learners, and building resilient communities prepared for the future,” dagdag niya.
