MANILA, Philippines – Iginiit ni Atty. Michael Poa, tagapagsalita ng kampo ng depensa ni Vice President Sara Duterte, na hindi layunin ng kanilang abogado na manakot nang banggitin ang posibleng paglabag sa bank secrecy laws kaugnay ng mga dokumento ng Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) na iniharap sa Senate impeachment court.
Ito ang sinabi ni Poa matapos ang mainitang ika-33 araw ng impeachment trial ni Duterte noong Lunes, kung saan ilang senator-judge ang kumwestiyon sa paraan ng pagtatanong ni Atty. Mark Vinluan sa AMLC executive director Ronel Buenaventura.
Sa cross-examination, binanggit ni Vinluan ang posibleng administrative at criminal liability laban sa mga nagbubunyag at nag-uulat ng kumpidensyal na impormasyon, kabilang ang media. Para sa ilang senator-judge, tila umabot ito sa pananakot.
“We regret that they felt that way. I think for Attorney Vinluan, that was not the intention. I think he was just reading the law and he just wanted to raise that with the witness,” ani Poa.
“But again, we regret if any senator felt that way because, as you know, it’s not the intention to threaten anyone,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi rin ni Poa na hindi layunin ng depensa na manakot o lumikha ng impresyon ng pananakot laban sa mga senator-judge, saksi at maging sa media.
“The defense really did not intend to threaten anyone, or at least create a perception of threatening anyone and that, of course, includes the senator judges, the witnesses, and even the media,” ani Poa.
Kabilang sa kumwestiyon kay Vinluan si Senator-judge Raffy Tulfo, na nagpaalala na pinayagan na ng Senate impeachment court ang pagsisiwalat ng AMLC records sa paglilitis. Hiniling din niya sa abogado na huwag manakot.
Ipinahayag naman ni Senator-judge Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan na “uncalled for” ang argumento ni Vinluan.
Para kay Senator-judge Risa Hontiveros, mali na “even indirectly” na bantaan ang media at iginiit na hindi dapat magkaroon ng “chilling effect” sa “Fourth Estate.” RNT/MDS
