MANILA, Philippines – Tinanggal ng Senado nitong Biyernes ang livestream ng unang bahagi ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte matapos sitahin ang isyu ng data privacy ng ilang opisyal ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
Iniutos ito ni Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero matapos sitahin ng testigo, si BIR Chief of Staff Atty. Anne Loraine Garcia-Marquez na nasa screen ang mga pangalan ng revenue officers sa Letters of Authority (LOAs) na ipinakita ng depensa.
Naunang ipinakita ng defense team ang LOAs sa screen ng livestream ng Senado kahit mahigpit na tinututulan nito ang paglalantad ng anumang dokumento nina Vice President Sara Duterte at asawa nitong si Atty. Manases Carpio hinggil sa buwis.
“The chair has already ordered the clerk of court to take down the original live stream and re-upload it with the redaction of the names of the revenue officers,” ani Escudero sa korte.
Naunang binigyang-diin ni Garcia-Marquez na dapat ay tinakpan muna ang mga pangalan ng kanyang mga kasamahan sa LOAs bago ito iharap sa korte. Kinonsulta muna siya ni Escudero bago ginawa ang desisyon.
Sa kanyang ruling, binigyang-diin din ni Escudero ang “public nature” ng impeachment trial.
“Such presentations may violate some provisions of the Data Privacy Act, as well as the security of certain officials of government engaged in various activities as part of their official functions and duties,” aniya.
Bukod sa pagtanggal ng livestream, inutusan din ni Escudero ang mga abogado at media na sumunod sa Data Privacy Act.
“We would like to remind not only Attorney Kristine and the counsels for the respondent, but also the counsel for the prosecution to be careful next time insofar as revealing names or addresses,” paalala niya.
“To be on the lookout for themselves in relation to the Data Privacy Act in the showing of the original live stream of the Senate proceedings before the impeachment court,” ani Escudero. Ernie Reyes
