Pinas nakakuha ng P212.7M euro loan mula sa World Bank para sa tubig, sanitation

MANILA, Philippines – ANG gobyerno ng Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng Department of Finance (DOF), ay nakahiram ng 212.7-million euro o P14.98 billion mula sa World Bank – International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (WB-IBRD) para i-improve ang water security, supply, at sanitation sa mga lugar na kulang sa serbisyo sa Pilipinas.

Sa isang kalatas, sinabi ng DOF na susuportahan ng official development assistance (ODA) na tustusan ang Accelerated Water and Sanitation Project in Selected Areas (AWSPSA) na ipatutupad ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) at Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Layon ng AWSPSA na tugunan ang water security at disinfection challenges sa mga mahihirap at mga lugar na kulang sa serbisyo at paghusayin ang water supply and sanitation (WSS) services para suportahan ang paglago ng ekonomiya at bawasan environmental risks mula sa kakapusan ng tubig.

“The project will include the construction of a bulk water supply system, septage treatment plant, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in the islands of Bohol, Siargao, and Sulu,” ayon sa DOF.

Sinabi pa ng departamento na nagtatag ang AWSPSA ng Phase 1 ng WB-IBRD’s Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) Water Security and Resilience in East Asia and Pacific Program.

Idinagdag pa ng DOF na ang MPA Program ay dinisenyo para suportahan ang napananatiling investments na nagpaigting sa water security at napahusay ang katatagan sa water-related climate risks, pagbibigay ng programmatic framework para tugunan ang ‘evolving water at sanitation needs’ ng bansa.

“The financing comes at an opportune time and provides a significant boost to strengthen our efforts to improve water security and cleanliness. We thank the World Bank-IBRD for its continued partnership with the Philippines as we pursue reforms to deliver more reliable services to our people,” ayon kay Finance Secretary Frederick Go.

Winika ng DOF na ang pinakabagong financing agreement na pinatibayna commitment ng administrasyong Marcos na palakasin ang water security, gawingh mahusay at maayos ang access sa malinis na tubig, upgrade and expand water infrastructure, at pagbibigay ng financing para sa WSS projects gaya ng binalangkas sa Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.

Ang tulong ay makaaagapay sa action plan ng gobyerno na pagaanin ang epekto ng inaasahang super El Niño. KRIS JOSE
