A TRUE CHAMPION OF THE MASSES

WHEN Filipinos hear the name “Mr. Malasakit” there’s little doubt that Senator
Bong Go is the only person who comes to mind. Known for his dedication to helping
those in need, Senator Go has earned a reputation as the go-to person for countless
ordinary citizens seeking assistance, particularly in times of medical or financial
emergencies.

While the affluent may not often think of asking for help due to their ability to
manage their crises independently, stories of Senator Go’s generosity are shared
among the less privileged. I have heard numerous personal accounts from ordinary
people who have been touched by his kindness. These are not isolated stories but
common tales shared in small conversations across the country.

I recently dined at a Mang Inasal restaurant, and at the next table, a father and his
son were discussing their family member—likely the mother—who was hospitalized. In
their conversation, I heard the son say, “Si Senator Bong Go ang laging pinakamalaking
magbigay (ng assistance).”

Indeed, the senator’s name has become synonymous with relief, particularly for
patients, fire victims, and others facing desperate situations, which I am sure is the
reason why he is always in the top five of poll surveys.

Last December, I had the opportunity to experience Senator Go’s help firsthand. I
reached out to his office, through former DSWD Asec Jade “Aksyon Agad” Jamolod, to
request help for a childhood friend whose hospital bills were mounting at a hospital in
Zamboanga City. Despite the tragic loss of my friend, her family was incredibly grateful
for the substantial medical assistance the senator’s office provided during such a
difficult time.

Senator Go’s swift action truly eases many Filipino families’ burdens during deeply challenging times.

Yesterday, I received a distressing video from my media friend Karlo Marlon
Ignacio, Brigada Zamboanga correspondent, about Leslie Gey Diaz, an Overseas
Filipino Worker in Saudi Arabia, who is currently hospitalized at Ciudad Medical in
Zamboanga City due to burns and abuse she suffered from the hands of her employer.

When I sought help from the good senator’s office, Atty. Jigs thru Asec Jade gave assurance that they
would give immediate attention to the matter.

Senator Bong Go’s service embodies true public service: quick, compassionate,
and without political bias. “Mr. Malasakit” is no urban legend. He consistently puts the
needs of the masses first, crossing political lines to ensure that every Filipino,
regardless of affiliation, gets the help they need.
