MANILA, Philippines – Nagbabala si Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano na mayroong “systematic attacks” laban sa Senado dahil sa iba’t ibang alegasyon na ibinabato laban sa ilang mga senador kamakailan sa gitna ng mga imbestigasyon sa mga maanomalyang flood control project.
Ikinalungkot ni Cayetano ang mga distractions na nagsasabing ang mga diversionary tactics na ito ay naglilihis sa atensyon ng publiko mula sa mastermind.
Sinabi ng lider ng minorya na naniniwala siyang ang nag-oorkestra sa mga isyung ito laban sa mga mambabatas ay higit pa sa isang tao.
“I don’t think there’s one mastermind. I think it’s a group of people who came together, maybe stumbling into it. We have some people in our minds, but we’d rather the evidence speak for it,” saad ni Cayetano.
Naalala ng mambabatas kung paano tinangka ng isang maling kampanyang People’s Initiative noong nakaraang taon na, “buwagin ang Senado”, na nagpapatibay sa kanyang paniniwala sa kasalukuyang mga paratang na bumabagabag sa mga miyembro ng Senado ay “part of a larger scheme by the masterminds to clear the way for their corrupt plans.”
“We all know that while the People’s Initiative was being created, they were forming this scam, not only on flood control projects. It’s surfacing one by one,” aniya.
Kaya naman, umapela si Cayetano kay Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III na protektahan ang upper chamber mula sa mga institutional attacks.
“If this happened to Sen. Risa Hontiveros or to Sen. Panfilo Lacson, even though I am in the minority, I will stand firm. Why? Because there is a systematic attack against the Senate,” ayon kay Cayetano.
“The Senate President is not only the father of the Majority – he also serves as the father of the whole Senate,” aniya.
“So if one member is being attacked, whether he or she is a member of the minority, an independent senator, but the attack is foul, it’s wrong to let the whole institution suffer,” binigyang-diin niya.
Hinimok din niya ang Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, na pinamumunuan ni Lacson, na manatiling nakatutok sa pagtukoy sa mga utak sa likod ng iskandalo.
“Eyes on the ball tayo… Whether administration or part of the opposition, we should be united in ensuring that the mastermind is prosecuted, jailed and the money is returned and the system is reformed,” aniya. RNT/MND
