MANILA, Philippines- Kinokonsidera ng Pilipinas na umangkat ng liquefied natural gas (LNG) mula Alaska kasabay ng pagtatakda ng Trump administration na muling buhayin at pasiglahin ang long-delayed USD44 billion gas pipeline project.
Nauna rito, nakuha naman ng Alaska ang suporta ni US Pesident President Donald Trump na i-develop ang Alaska LNG project, maaaring magproseso at maghatid ng 20 milyong tonelada ng LNG taun-taon.
Layon ng proyekto na ikonekta ang gas fields mula northern Alaska sa daungan sa katimugan para sa liquefaction and export, pangunahin na sa Asian market.
“We plan to procure LNG from Alaska to meet our growing needs to develop our energy sector,” ang pinost ni Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez sa kanyang X account.
“Pres. (Ferdinand) Marcos (Jr.) hopes to discuss this and other matters of mutual benefit and interest for both our countries when he meets with Pres. Trump at the soonest possible time,” aniya pa rin.
Sa ngayon, walang tiyak na timeline subalit sinabi ni Romualdez na nagtutulungan ang dalawang gobyerno para magtakda ng bilateral meeting sa pagitan ng dalawang lider ngayong taon.
Winika pa ni Romualdez na ang alok ng Alaska ay makatutulong sa bansa na maka-secure ng matatag ng suplay ng LNG maliban pa sa makuha ito sa isang ‘competitive price.’
“Similar to what Japan that made a commitment, we are prepared to make a commitment to be able to buy some of that LNG. This is being offered to us matagal na by US Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska),” ang sinabi pa rin ni Romualdez.
“They have an abundant supply, so we might be able to get it very cheap—That’s what we are hearing from them that’s why we are considering it as part of our energy mix,” dagdag na wika nito. Kris Jose
