MANILA, Philippines – Nangako ang Pilipinas at Ukraine na patuloy na palalakasin ang kanilang alyansa sa gitna ng tumataas na pandaigdigang hamon sa seguridad na dulot ng tunggalian ng Russia-Ukraine at pagsalakay ng China sa South China Sea.
Ang mga opisyal mula sa Ukrainian Embassy sa Maynila at ang policy think-tank na Stratbase Institute ay nag-host ng isang high-level forum na pinamagatang “Strengthening Strategic Ties: Enhancing Cooperation between the Philippines and Ukraine” kamakailan upang magtipon ng mga diplomat, opisyal ng militar, at mga eksperto sa seguridad.
Sa panahon ng forum, binigyang-diin ng mga stakeholder ang pangangailangang ipagtanggol ang soberanya sa pamamagitan ng “resilience, innovation, and cooperation with like-minded democracies.”
“Ukraine and the Philippines, though geographically distant, are connected by a number of shared values and parallel experiences. Both of our nations are committed to defending sovereignty, territorial integrity, and upholding a rule-based international order,” ayon kay Ukrainian Ambassador to the Philippines Yuliia Fediv.
Binanggit din ni Stratbase Institute President Prof. Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit na ang parehong mga bansa ay nahaharap sa pamimilit at mga pagsalakay na nagbabanta sa soberanya.
“Ukraine is courageously defending its territory against outright armed aggression, while the Philippines asserts its sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea in the face of coercion and incursions. Deeper cooperation between the Philippines and Ukraine is both urgent and strategic,” aniya.
Para kay Dr. Hanna Shelest, direktor ng Security Studies Program sa Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism,” mayroong paralelismo sa pagitan ng Black Sea ng Europa at ng pinagtatalunang dagat ng Asya.
“The Philippines delegation was the only one who stood and openly said, if you don’t understand why it is important for all of us… you’re just not understanding the security challenges that we are facing,” aniya.
Sa kabila ng heograpikal na distansya, ang Ukrainian Member of Parliament (MP) na si Tamila Tasheva ay itinuro din ang pagkakatulad ng dalawang bansa.
“Both of our countries face stronger neighbors which test the limits of international law in maritime spaces. Both of us understand that maritime security is not only about fleets and ports, but about protecting our people, trade, and principles that keep our global order stable,” aniya.
Ang mga forum kasama ang Ukraine at Europe ay nagpatibay sa misyon ng Stratbase na palakasin ang katatagan ng Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng mas malalim na mga alyansa, teknolohikal na pagbabago, at pakikipagtulungan. RNT/MND
