MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan ngayong Lunes si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sa Kongreso na magpasa ng isang enabling law na magbibigay ng legal na personalidad at kapasidad ng Pilipinas na maging bahagi ng board ng climate disaster fund na tinatawag na “Loss and Damage Fund.”
“Precisely because of our inherent vulnerability, we are proactive advocates for heightened climate responsibility and justice on the global stage. To this end, we have secured a seat on the board of the Loss and Damage Fund and further the Philippines has been selected as host country to that fund,” anu Marcos sa kanyang ikatlong State of the Nation Address (SONA).
“This will require an enabling law from Congress to confer the legal personality and capacity to the board. This welcome development shall complement all our other climate adaptation and mitigation measures and give us a strong voice to access the needed finance assistance for climate-related initiatives and impacts,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas noong Disyembre ng nakaraang taon ay nakakuha ng puwesto sa lupon ng Loss and Damage Fund, na naglalayong tulungan ang mga mahihirap na bansa na makayanan ang mamahaling kalamidad sa klima.
Nauna nang sinabi ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources ng bansa na ang Pilipinas ay “most qualified” na mag-host ng Loss and Damage Fund dahil ito ay isang buhay na testamento sa mga epekto ng climate change. RNT
