In a decisive operation, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group dismantled a syndicate orchestrating a “pay-for-poll-victory” scheme, preying on political candidates in the upcoming elections.
Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil has since issued a warning, urging candidates to remain vigilant against these fraudulent activities.
The crackdown followed an operation led by CIDG’s National Capital Region unit on February 8, resulting in the arrest of three key suspects – identified only as Bernard, Donnie, and Ronald .
The suspects were nabbed in a meticulously planned entrapment operation inside a Marikina City mall. Meanwhile, four other members of the syndicate remain at large.
PMGen. Nicolas Torre III revealed that the syndicate attempted to extort P90 million from Robert Turingan, 73, mayoral candidate of Enrile, Cagayan, and his daughter, Karen Kaye Turingan, 41, who is running for vice mayor in the same town.
The con artists promised them electoral victory in exchange for the staggering sum.
Charges are currently being prepared against the arrested individuals, while CIDG operatives continue their efforts to bring the remaining suspects to justice.

In a separate operation, CIDG operatives engaged in a shootout with a criminal group targeting online jewelry sellers in Angono, Rizal.
The sting operation led to the arrest of Patrick Almazan, 25, while two of his accomplices were fatally shot after resisting arrest.
The suspects were linked to multiple complaints from victims, including Jennifer Pineda, 48, and Augusto Pineda, 53, both from Sampaloc, Manila, who fell prey to the syndicate’s scheme.
With relentless efforts in combating criminal enterprises, CIDG continues to deliver major blows to crime networks, ensuring public safety and upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
