MANILA, Philippines – Pinuri ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) ang commitment ng Department of Justice (DOJ) na magsagawa ng forensic investigations sa mga nasawing persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
Anang CHR, nagpapakita ito ng dedikasyon ng DOJ sa pagprotekta at pagpapanatili ng Karapatan ng mga inmate.
Ang tinutukoy ng CHR ay ang deklarasyon ng kooperasyon na pinirmahan ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na layong palakasin ang procedures sa imbestigasyon ng custodial deaths ng inmates.
Pinirmahan din ito ng University of the Philippines (UP) College of Medicine at United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
“We welcome this commitment as it demonstrates our desire to take all necessary steps to protect and uphold the rights of PDLs. We also acknowledge Justice Remulla’s initiative to signify this declaration of cooperation to institutionalise investigation in cases of custodial death of prisoners,” saad sa pahayag ng CHR.
Sa ilalim ng declaration of cooperation, sisiguruhin ng DOJ na agad na ililipat mula sa mga piitan sa Metro Manila ang nasawing inmate patungo sa UP College of Medicine para sa autopsy.
Isasagawa ng mga pathologist mula sa naturang unibersidad ang mga autopsy ayon sa international standards gamit ang technical assistance at suporta mula sa UNODC.
“Ensuring that the deaths of PDLs are thoroughly investigated aligns with the broader goal of safeguarding human rights and upholding justice,” ayon sa CHR. RNT/JGC
