MANILA, Philippines – Nagsanib-pwersa ang Department of Agriculture (DA) at Central Philippine University (CPU) sa serye ng mga event para palakasin pa ang awareness ng mga tao kaugnay sa organic agriculture kasabay ng selebrasyon ng bansa sa Organic Agriculture Month ngayong Nobyembre.
“Our purpose is to promote the importance of organic agriculture, achieve food security, global competitiveness, environmental integrity, and alleviating poverty,” ayon kay Dr. Joyce Wendam, CPU outreach program coordinator.
Ani Wendam, importante na masangkot ang mga magsasaka sa organic farming.
Inoobliga ang mga ito na ilaan ang 7% ng kanilang production area para sa organic agriculture, ngunit mas mainam kung mapatataas pa.
“It is important that we promote the adoption of organic agriculture because of food safety, the sustainable livelihood of farmers, environmental protection, and then there is the promotion of social justice, and disaster risk and mitigating measures,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang serye ng mga aktibidad ay nagsimula noong Nobyembre 18 sa pagbubukas ng trade fair, habang ang iba pang highlights ay mula Nobyembre 20 hanggang 22.
Kabilang dito ang organic research symposium para sa mga estudyante at professional, organic quiz bee para sa mga estudyante, folk media (binalaybay and composo) competition para sa mga magsasaka, poster-making competition, at organic cooking contest.
“Our students are the successor generation. They have to succeed our aging farmers. The role of our youth is more on agri-entrepreneurship, so there will be value-adding and money in agriculture,” sinabi ni Wendam.
Samantala, sinabi ni DA Regional Agri-Fishery and Information Division chief James Earl Ogatis, ang kahalagahan ng folk media competition nitong Biyernes.
“We have proven that through folk media, we can disseminate and our farmers will understand how to apply the technology and narrate the details of the program.” RNT/JGC
