MANILA, Philippines – May hanggang Hunyo 1 si Vice President Sara Duterte para sagutin ang writ of summons na inisyu laban sa kanya kaugnay sa kanyang impeachment case, ayon kay Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano nitong Miyerkules, Mayo 20.
Ito ang inanunsyo ni Cayetano matapos kumpirmahin ng Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (SAA) na pormal nang isinilbi ang summons at kopya ng Impeachment Articles kay Duterte sa kaparehong araw.
Kinumpirma rin ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) na natanggap na ang mga dokumento.
“I respectfully inform the body that today May 20, 2026 the summons in relation to the Articles of Impeachment filed against Vice President Sara Duterte was duly-served upon respondent Vice Pesident Sara Z. Duterte,” ani Cayetano.
“A copy of the summons was likewise furnished to the prosecution panel on the same date,” dagdag pa.
Noong Lunes, nag-convene ang Senado bilang impeachment court para sa paglilitis kay Duterte sa mga alegasyon ng culpable violation sa 1987 Constitution, graft and corruption, at betrayal of public trust.
Sa ilalim ng Resolution No. 39 o Rules of Procedure on Impeachment Trial, si Duterte ay binigyan ng non-extendible period na ten calendar days mula sa pagkakatanggap ng kanyang pleadings sa impeachment case at aatasan na humarap sa Senado “upon notice.”
Ang prosekusyon naman ay maaaring maghain ng kanilang tugon sa loob ng non-extendible period na five calendar days mula sa pagkakatanggap ng sagot.
“Counting ten calendar days from May 20, 2026,the last day would ordinarily fall on a Saturday, May 30, 2026. However, since the last day falls on a Saturday, the period shall not run until the next working day. Accordingly, the deadline for the respondent to file her answer is on Monday, June 1, 2026,” ani Cayetano.
Matapos ang suspensyon ng sesyon, isinagawa ng mga senador ang all-member caucus para pag-usapan ang impeachment calendar. RNT/JGC
