MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ng Office of Civil Defense (OCD) na dapat magkaroon ng collective effort para matiyak ang kaligtasan ng komunidad laban sa sakuna at kalamidad.
Binigyang-diin ni OCD Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno ang kahalagahan ng pag-adopt ng “whole-of-nation” approach sa pagtataguyod ng disaster-resilient communities lalo pa’t malapit na ang pagdiriwang sa National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) ngayong Hulyo.
“NDRM 2023 is a call for us to continue working to make the Signature Filipino Smile of Resilience clearly stand for our ability to mitigate, prepare, respond, and recover from disasters,” ayon kay Nepomuceno.
“The time is now for us to scale up our strategies and work in surmounting the impacts of disaster through foresight and preparedness,” dagdag na wika niya.
Layon aniya ng nasabing tanggapan sa pagdiriwang ngayong taon ng NDRM “to bring our nation closer to the goal of building safer, climate change adaptive and disaster resilient communities.”
“To achieve this,the OCD will continue to advocate for action and cooperation from all levels of governance, community-based organizations, and the general public to ensure the safety, adaptiveness, and resilience of all Filipinos,” patuloy niya.
Nauna rito, inilunsad ng OCD ang photography and video-making contests na tinawag na “Resilience Mobile Photography” at “Reel-silience” para hikayatin ang publiko na magpartisipa sa pagdiriwang ng NDRM.
Kada taon, iba’t ibang sakuna at kalamidad ang nangyayari sa Pilipinas gaya ng bagyo, lindol at volcanic eruptions, dahilan upang ituring ang bansa bilang isa sa “most disaster-prone countries” sa buong mundo.
Matatagpuan ito sa Pacific Ring of Fire na dahilan ng dami ng volcanic at seismic activities, at maging sa “Typhoon Belt” sa Pacific Ocean kaya’t binibisita ito ng 20 bagyo kada taon.
Gayunman, pinangunahan ng National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), sa pamamagitan ng OCD, ang month-long celebration ng NDRM gaya ng mandato sa Executive Order Number 29 na nilagdaan noong Hunyo 28, 2017 para igiit sa publiko ang kahalagahan ng “preparedness at disaster prevention.” Kris Jose
