MANILA, Philippines- Nakatakdang maghain ng Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) ng claim sa ilalim ng National Indemnity Insurance Program (NIIP) para sa pagkumpuni at rekonstruksyon ng 45 public schools sa walong rehiyon na napinsala ni Bagyong Carina at ng southwest monsoon (Habagat), base sa Department of Finance (DOF) nitong Huwebes.
Inilunsad noong Enero, insured sa ilalim ng NIIP ang government assets laban sa sunog, kidlat, bagyo, pagbaha, lindol, at volcanic eruptions.
Para sa pilot run ng national indemnity program, sinabi ng DOF na nakapag-secure ang Treasury ng coverage para sa 132,862 school buildings sa buong bansa na may kabuuang insured value na P843.11 bilyon.
Aktibong nagtutulungan ang Finance Department, BTr, Department of Education (DepEd), at ang Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) sa paghahain ng insurance claims sa ilalim ng NIIP dahil pumalo na ang halaga ng pinsala sa mga pampublikong paaralan sa P308.5 milyon.
Kapag nakumpirma na ang payout, inihayag ng DOF na magagamit na ng DepEd ang pondo para sa pagkumpuni at rekonstruksyon ng mga nasabing paaralan.
“I commend the Bureau of the Treasury for its proactive steps in implementing the National Indemnity Insurance Program. Protecting our national assets is crucial for ensuring the economic security of our people,” pahayag ni Finance Secretary Ralph Recto.
“Damaged school buildings pose a significant threat to this security, as they are the very places where we nurture the potential of our nation’s greatest treasure—our students. Poor school facilities negatively impact both teachers and students, leading to lower human capital development, reduced economic productivity, and persistent poverty. Thus, we must prioritize investing in resilient school buildings to secure a better future for our children and our country,” dagdag ng opisyal.
Sinabi naman ni National Treasurer Sharon Almanza na binibigyang-diin ng implementasyon ng national indemnity program ang commitment ng Treasury at ng DOF “to ensure the nation’s financial resilience against disasters.”
