MANILA, Philippines – Posibleng ipatigil ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ang mga ongoing flood-control projects na nadiskubreng depektibo at lalo pang nakasama sa mga komunidad.
Alinsunod na rin ito sa utos ng Pangulong Marcos na tiyaking lahat ng proyekto ng pamahalaan ay ramdam at napapakinabangan ng mga Pilipino.
Ayon kay DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, ang problema kasi ng mga dike ay maaaring nire-restrict nito ang daloy ng tubig o ang carrying capacity ng mga waterways, o pinapabilis ang daloy ng tubig na mas nakakasira at nakasasama.
“With enough data and with enough evidence, we might even need to dismantle those flood control projects because of their net harmful effects to the communities and the environment,” ayon sa kalihim.
Tiniyak pa ni Secretary Dizon na gagamitin din ang data mula sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Water Resources Management Office (DENR-WRMO) at iba pang relevant agencies at private organizations para sa science-based at nature-based approach sa mga future flood control projects ng ahensya.
