MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ni Senate President Francis ”Chiz” Escudero nitong Martes na wala pang natatanggap ang kapulungan na anumang pormal na komunikasyon mula sa International Criminal Court (ICC) hinggil sa mga pahayag kamakailan ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa imbestigasyon ng Senado sa drug war.
“I have no idea about this ICC. I keep on reading about it but no formal communication has been sent to me as Senate President, no formal communication has been sent to the Senate about that,” pahayag ni Escudero.
”Whatever I read about ICC is only from Filipinos who claimed to be talking to them. But no formal communication or letter from the ICC for me to actually make an educated evaluation of what they will do or where they are right now in the current situation,” dagdag niya.
Nauna nang sinabi ni Duterte sa mga mambabatas na aakuin niya ang “full, legal responsibility” sa drug war sa pagdepensa niya sa police officials na nagpatupad ng madugong kampanya laban sa ilegal na droga.
Anang dating Pangulo, isinagawa niya ang drug war upang protektahan ang mga Pilipino.
Nauna nang iginiit ng Malacañang na maninindigan ang Pilipinas sa posisyon nitong hindi pagbalik sa ICC.
Kumalas ang Pilipinas sa ilalim ng administrasyong Duterte sa Hague-based ICC’s Rome Statute noong 2018, na umiral noong 2019, matapos simulan ng tribunal ang preliminary probe sa drug war. RNT/SA
