French warship Bretagne dumaong sa Manila

MANILA, Philippines- Dumaong ang isang French Navy destroyer sa Manila nitong Biyernes para sa five-day port call bilang bahagi ng joint maritime exercises ng France at ng Pilipinas.

Kabilang ang pagbisita ng French frigate Bretagne — isa sa pinakamalaking warships ng France— sa letters of intent na nilagdaan ng mga bansa upang palakasin ang security cooperation ng mga ito, base sa ulat nitong Biyernes.

Saklaw din nito ang commitment na umpisahan ang negosasyon para sa visiting forces agreement (VFA) sa pagitan ng dalawang pwersa.

“Teams have started discussing the modalities of how they could open the negotiations on the VFA but to start officially the negotiation they will be few steps undertaken first,” pahayag ni French Ambassador Marie Fontanel.

“The first one is to have a draft,” dagdag niya.

Nakatakdang maglayag ang multi-purpose destroyer sa iba’t ibang bansa kasama ang Indonesia. 

“We started this momentum by our first patrol in the South China Sea to better understand both the maritime actors and the environment in this region,” ani Destroyer Bretagne Commanding Officer Captain Gwenegan Le Bourhis. 

“Deploying such a high and capable unit is quite a commitment from the French Navy and this commitment will be valued by friends strengthening our bonds with our partners in the region among which the Philippine Navy,” patuloy ng opisyal. RNT/SA
