MANILA, Philippines- Pinagtibay ng Sandiganbayan ang bisa at pagiging sapat ng graft at falsification charges laban kay dismissed Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary Kristine Evangelista sa kontrobersyal na onion deal.
Kaugnay ito ng umano’y mga iregularidad sa pagbili ng P133 milyong halaga ng sibuyas mula sa Bonena Multi-Purpose Cooperative para sa Food Mobilization o Kadiwa Food Hub project n ng ahensya mula Disyembre 2022 hanggang Enero 2023.
Inakusahan si Evangelista ng pakikipagsabawatan sa Food Terminal Inc. officials sa umano’y pagpabor sa BMC upang maging supplier nito para sa 8,845 sako ng sibuyas na nagkakahalaga ng P132.99 milyon. Pinili rin umano niya si BMC President Israel Reguyal para sa onion delivery deal.
Sa 16-pahinang desisyon na may petsang Agosto 30, ibinasura ng Special Sixth Division ang Motion to Quash ni Evangelista at “motion to hold in abeyance the issuance of an arrest warrant against her.’
“The accusation centers on her alleged irregular exercise of the authority granted her under the MOA to identify and approve the supplier of onions and her alleged conspiracy with the other accused to procure onions from a person or entity without capability to deliver under the contract,” giit ng anti-graft court.
“There is also no merit in Evangelista’s contention that the Office of the Ombudsman’s resolution and the records show that her role was limited to the identification of farmer-supplier in onions,” dagdag nito.
Nahaharap din sina FTI Vice President for Operations John Gabriel Trinidad III, warehouse supervisor Benedict Libres at warehouse staff Marlon Pagsisihan sa mga parehong kaso.
Kabilang sa private defendants mula sa Bonena sina Reguyal, drivers Jocelyn Jane, Rossul Batadhay, Romy Jimeno, Charlito Ylanan, Francisco Laplana III, Arnold Osorio, Angelo Lajom, Randy Santos, Erickson Cortez, Ruben Bautista, Vince Lorenzo, Windell Canaan, at AJ Balama.
Komento naman ni Evangelista: “Tayo po ay nalulungkot sa naging desisyon ng Sandiganbayan bagamat iginagalang natin ang kanilang pasya. At dahil tayo po naman ay malinis ang konsensya at taas noo tayong makakaharap kaninoman na hindi tayo nagnakaw o naging corrupt bagkus, ginawa lang natin ang ating tungkuling matulungan ang mga magsasaka at ang ating mamimili naman, na mapagaan ang kanilang pamumuhay, naniniwala po tayo na lalabas din ang katotohan na wala tayong nilabag na batas.”
