MANILA, Philippines – Isa ang probinsya ng Iloilo sa tumanggap ng Energy Champion Award mula sa Visayas Field Office ng Department of Energy.
“We want to recognize government entities, individuals, and other institutions that have contributed to the promotion of our goal on renewable energy and energy efficiency,” pahayag ni Chief Science Research Specialist Lourdes Arciaga sa isang panayam.
Aniya, ang Energy Champions, Leaders, Achievers, and Pioneers (ECLAP) Awards ay gaganapin sa seremonya sa Cebu City sa Disyembre 12 na nagsisilbing highlight ng National Energy Consciousness Month celebration.
Ang Iloilo ang itinuturing na lider ng implementasyon ng government energy management program.
Sa pamamagitan ng inisyatibo ng provincial government, 100% ng local government units nito ay mayroong Local Efficiency and Conservation Plan, isang requirement para makapaglaan ng pondo para sa energy efficiency projects.
“We want to highlight this to also encourage other provinces,” ani Arciaga.
Bukod sa Iloilo province, gagawaran din ng DOE Visayas ng ECLAP Award si Iloilo Board Member Rolando Distura sa pag-akda ng Iloilo Provincial Ordinance for Renewable Energy (I-PORE), isang landmark legislation na nagpapakilala ng renewable energy.
Binibigyang mandato ng I-PORE ang kalahati ng isang porsyento ng total budget ng probinsya na ilaan sa renewable energy projects.
Kinilala rin ang Western Visayas Regional Development Council, ang natatanging konseho sa bansa na nagbigay ng special chapter sa promosyon ng renewable energy sa Regional Development Plan nito.
“That is big for us in the Department of Energy. We want to give them recognition for them to serve as a benchmark for other LGUs,” ayon pa kay Arciaga.
Samantala, sinabi ni Rey Victor Garin, OIC Head para sa Energy Efficiency and Conservation Desk of the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office, na ang renewable energy efforts ay naka-angkla sa Government Energy Management Program (GEMP).
“It was stipulated in the GEMP that we have to have 10 percent savings on both fuel and electricity. There is no better way than to invest in renewable energy projects,” ani Garin.
Sinabi nito na si Distura ay lumilikha ng panibagong ordinansa, ang Iloilo Schools Having Access to Renewable Energy, na ngayon ay nasa ikalawang pagbasa na ng Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Magbibigay-prayoridad ang proyekto sa mga malalayong paaralan sa lugar na walang access sa kuryente. RNT/JGC
