MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ni Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri na tinatapos ng Hungary ang isang $33 milyon o P1.9 bilyon na kasunduang pautang sa Pilipinas para pondohan ang mga pangunahing water treatment at desalination projects nito.
Ayon sa opisina ni Zubiri, inihayag ito ng Hungary sa courtesy call ni Hungarian National Assembly Speaker László Kövér kay Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III sa Senado nitong Huwebes, Oktubre 15.
“Napakahalaga ng proyektong ito dahil it will bring real solutions to local water access, especially in coastal areas where freshwater is limited. Hungary’s experience in water management can help us a great deal,” saad ni Zubiri sa kanyang pahayag.
Sinabi ni Zubiri, na nagsisilbi rin bilang presidente ng Philippines–Hungary Parliamentary Friendship Group, na binibigyang-diin ng proyekto ang pangako ng Hungary na tulungan ang mga umuunlad na bansa sa napapanatiling imprastraktura.
“Climate change affects us all, and partnerships like this give us access to both technology and expertise. We can learn from Hungary’s long history in water management,” aniya.
Idinagdag niya na ang alok ng pautang ng Hungary “supports the Philippines’ continuing efforts to modernize its water infrastructure and ensure access to clean water across the country.”
“Kung matutuloy ito, makakapagpatayo tayo ng mas maayos at ligtas na water systems sa mga probinsya, we can provide cleaner and safer water systems sa mga probinsya,” ayon kay Zubiri.
Samantala, binigyang-diin ni Sotto ang pagpapahalaga ng Pilipinas sa suporta ng Hungary sa multilateral engagements.
“Hungary has long been our valued partner. We are grateful for your country’s continued support, including our bid for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term,” aniya. RNT/MND
