MANILA, Philippines- Kasunod ng naging pagbaha sa Metro Manila, isang House Resolution ang inihain sa Kamara ng Makabayan Bloc na nagsusulong na imbestigahan ang ginagawang reklamasyon sa Manila Bay na tiinuturong dahilan ng pagbaha sa kasagsagan ng bagyong Carina.
Sa House Resolution 1814 na inihain nina House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro, House Assistant Minority Leader Arlene Brosas at Kabataan party-list Rep Raoul Manuel, iginiit ng mga mambabatas na nilabag ng Manila Bay reclamation projects ang 2008 Mandamus order ng Korte Suprema na malinaw na nag-uutos na i-rehabilitate at ipreserba ang Manila Bay.
“Current reclamation activities have already displaced or impacted the livelihoods of 2,700 fisherfolk and urban poor in Bulacan and Navotas, destroyed critical wetlands, and pose a significant threat to the marine biodiversity and ecosystems in the region,” nakasaad sa resolusyon.
“It is imperative to investigate the impact of these reclamation projects on flood-prone areas to ensure the protection of communities, the environment, and the fulfillment of legal mandates pertaining to environmental conservation and disaster risk reduction,” giit ng Makabayan Bloc.
Inihayag ng mga mambabatas na malaki ang naging epekto ng reclamation projects sa mga residente na naninirahan sa coastal, nagdudulot ng pagbaha, storm surges, liquefaction at kawalan ng makukuhang isda sa Metro Manila, Bulacan at Cavite.
“We cannot prioritize profit-driven development at the expense of our people’s safety and well-being,” paliwanag ni Manuel.
Matatandaan na noong Oktubre 2023 ay sinuspinde na ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ang 22 Manila Bay reclamation projects at pinarerebyu sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
