MANILA, Philippines — Humiling ng temporary restraining order (TRO) sa Korte Suprema ang mga abogado na kaalyado ni Vice President Sara Duterte laban sa isinasagawang impeachment proceedings sa House of Representatives.
Ayon kay Atty. Torreon, na nagsilbing abogado ng kampo ni Duterte sa mga naunang petisyon, inihain ang petition for certiorari na may kahilingang TRO bilang mga taxpayer at hindi bilang bahagi ng legal team ng Bise Presidente.
Kinuwestiyon sa petisyon ang saklaw ng kapangyarihan ng Kamara sa pagsisimula ng impeachment.
“The Constitution grants the House the sole power to initiate impeachment, but that power is not absolute,” ayon sa petisyon.
“It is bounded by law, by due process, by the Committee’s duty to dismiss complaints that fail the required threshold tests, and by prohibition against converting impeachment initiation into a roving inquiry designed to build, rather than merely evaluate, a case,” dagdag pa nito. Santi Celario
